LS Occupational Therapy Screenings

Each school year, a consulting Occupational Therapist observes all of the kindergarten and first-grade classrooms and engages in activities with individual students in grades K-4 that are referred by classroom teachers.
Occupational Therapy focuses on muscle development and coordination including fine motor and hand skills, gross motor skills, visual-perceptual skills, and the body's ability to take in and integrate sensory information.

The information that is gathered from the screenings is used to guide instruction in both the classroom and physical education. The Burke's Learning Specialist will contact families about individual screenings and all parents will have the opportunity to discuss the screening with their child’s classroom teachers and learning specialist.

A parent education workshop is also offered to provide parents with an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about motor development and sensory integration.
